How to Find Someone Who Has Already Solved Your Problem
4 min read
There's a specific kind of relief in talking to someone who's already been where you are. Not a framework, not a generic best practice — someone who's actually made the decision you're trying to make, and lived with the result.
Start by naming the problem precisely
"We need help with sales" is too broad to search against. "We need to restructure a B2B sales team after entering a new market" is specific enough that someone with directly relevant experience can recognize themselves in it immediately.
Look for experience, not just a title
A job title tells you what someone does now. It doesn't tell you whether they've actually solved your specific problem. Look for the details: which industries, which company stages, which specific situations. A finance director who has taken three companies through a fundraise is a very different match than a finance director who hasn't.
Ask before you commit
The best way to know if someone's experience actually fits is to ask them directly — a short conversation before any formal engagement tells you more than a profile ever could.
Where to look
This is exactly the gap EnlightIn exists to close — describing a specific problem, and finding people whose actual background matches it, rather than relying on whoever happens to be in your existing network.
Find people who know. Share what you know.
